FAO Postgraduate Students in Philosophy: BPPA 9-12 September at Leeds, Call for Respondents

British Postgraduate Philosophy Association (BPPA) Annual Conference:
CALL FOR RESPONDENTS

The BPPA Annual Conference is an annual philosophy conference run by and
for postgraduate students in the UK, as well as the occasional keen
traveller from foreign parts. Our conference has the dual aim of featuring
the highest quality postgraduate work in philosophy and finding creative
ways to satisfy the expectations of current graduate students.

UPDATE: In response to the call for abstracts the organising committee
received a large number of submissions from postgraduate (PG) students
across the UK and overseas. The breadth and the standard of the papers
submitted exceeded the already high expectations. Through a process of
blind peer review the selection has resulted in 16 papers which will be
presented over the three days of the conference.

INVITATION: PG students in Philosophy are invited and warmly encouraged to
put yourself forward to be a respondent to a paper given by a PG student,
at this year’s BPPA conference. A respondent follows the delivery of a
paper with 5–10 minutes of prepared thoughts, offering a summary of main
points of the argument and some areas for development. It is an excellent
opportunity to help your peers improve on their ideas and to improve your
curriculum vitae. You will receive the paper two to three weeks in advance
of the conference, giving you sufficient time to prepare and it will be
possible to contact the author upon request. If you are a philosophy
student in any postgraduate course, and you would like to be a respondent
(and have not already submitted an abstract with a note saying you would
like to be considered as a respondent), then please email the conference
organising committee at bppa.leeds.2014 by August 10th with the
following particulars :

– Full name
– University affiliation
– Research level (i.e., MA, PhD)
– Current specific area of study
– One area of expertise
– Two areas of competence
– Alternative contact information

You will be notified as to whether you have been chosen by August 15th and
subsequently be sent the paper to which you are responding.

CALENDAR: There will be timely updates and announcements regarding keynote
speakers, careers day, accommodation, registration fees, etc., e-mailed and
posted on-line over the course of the coming weeks and right up to the
Conference date itself.

APRIL 17: opening call for submitting abstracts
JUNE 27: deadline for submitting abstracts
END OF JULY: notification of selections, call for respondents
August 12: conference registration opens
